Spring! Of Baseball and Pesach

When my two favourite things intersect

25 more days and counting until Erev Pesach! (Friday April 15, 2022 is the night of the first Seder)

The wild and windy winter is almost behind us and now we can start thinking and dreaming about spring in all its glory! To me, spring means two things- baseball and Pesach.

I love when my two favourite hallmarks of spring intersect.

For example, when you have time, check out this very unusual Baseball Haggadah http://www.thebaseballhaggadah.com/peek-inside.shtml

There’s also a great story for kids: Matzah Ball: A Passover Story by Mindy Avra Portnoy (Author), Katherine Janus Kahn (Illustrator)

For an interesting read about baseball and Jewish ballplayers, look for Matzoh Balls and Baseballs by Dave Cohen (Author).

Book cover Matzah Ball, A Passover Story, with image of someone holding a baseball bat.

It’s never too early to prepare for Pesach and this year is no different. If it is your first time hosting a Seder, take a look at this checklist as a means to get yourself organized at reformjudaism.org : https://reformjudaism.org/jewish-holidays/passover/hosting-passover-seder-use-checklist-prepare

The times being what they are, we also created a checklist for hosting a virtual Seder at https://tinyurl.com/VSederChecklist.

If you know someone who would like to host and needs to start from scratch, consider sending them a JewJu Box Seder Box: https://www.jewjubox.ca/shop/p/seder-box . It has everything one needs to hold a Seder (except all the glorious food!). Please note: We do include a recipe for Matzah for those who do not have easy access to a store that supplies Matzah. We also have a guide with some links to suggestions for those hosting a Seder for the first time. You can access it here: https://tiny.one/VirtualSederChecklist .

So, let the countdown begin!
